Initial Reactions and Appearance
The construction of Oliva Serie V Melanio Robusto is incredible. There are no imperfections and no noticeable soft spots. It smells well-aged, and the unlit draw is potent and earthy. Great first impressions.
The initial puffs aren’t too overwhelming, but I found myself wishing for more complexity. There isn’t a whole lot of flavor, and the flavor that is present is mostly earthy. Oliva Serie V Melanio Robusto gets a bit more complex as the smoke progresses. The retrohale provides small hints of chocolate and sweetness, but it isn’t enough to improve the flat-earthiness from before. With a loose draw, Oliva Serie V Melanio Robusto produces a lot of smoke.
Oliva Serie V Melanio Robusto develops quite well in the second third as the flavors become more complex and the chocolate taste becomes more prominent on the retrohale. The earthy tones grow in intensity as well. A lot of smoke is still being produced due to the loose draw, but it’s not too loose by any means.
Unfortunately, the final third of Oliva Serie V Melanio Robusto falls short. The flavors go from complex to mild, and the same earthy taste just makes this smoke a little flat. It’s not a bad cigar – there just isn’t a lot going on. The flavors fell short for me, but if an earth-forward cigar with some sweet notes is something you’d enjoy, then you can’t go wrong with Oliva Serie V Melanio Robusto.
