Initial Reactions and Appearance
My Father La Gran Oferta Lancero’s wrapper has a nice cocoa color, and it has a strong earthy scent. The unlit draw provides some more earthy vibes with a hint of chocolate as well.
My father cigars are known for pepper on the retrohale, but the first few puffs of My Father La Gran Oferta Lancero lack that specific flavor. The smoke is smooth, but the only flavor is a subtle bit of cocoa. Over time, the pepper appears and builds on the retrohale. This cigar definitely goes through a dramatic change as the smoke gets sweet and creamy, and some woody and nutty notes show their face as well. Both the draw and the burn on My Father La Gran Oferta Lancero have been fantastic.
Pepper and chocolate are huge flavors on the second third—just what you’d expect from a my father cigar. Unfortunately, the cigar changes for the worse toward the end of the second third. The creaminess goes away, and the only thing present is the pepper on the retrohale. Not to say the smoke is harsh or bitter, but it doesn’t have a lot going for it. My Father La Gran Oferta Lancero required a relight and there was one burn issue I had to fix.
All of the great flavors from the first third make a reappearance on the final third. The nuttiness, creaminess, and wood flavors are accompanied by the pepper on the retrohale, and it all gets really spicy toward the end.
Would I Smoke My Father La Gran Oferta Lancero Again?
Maybe. It’s nowhere near the best My Father cigar I’ve smoked, but the decent flavors made it okay. My Father La Gran Oferta Lancero is a good stick and I think it’s priced right, but its lack of complexity makes it a bit boring.
