Initial Reactions and Appearance
La Barba Purple Robusto has a surprisingly mild smell, in fact, there’s almost no smell at all from the foot. Initial notes from the unlit draw are full-bodied, but there’s not much flavor coming off. The cigar has a dark wrapper with no major veins running through.
There’s not a ton of flavor, but a bit of subtle woodiness has become present in the background. There’s good construction and the ash held to about an inch before falling off. A surprising amount of pepper flavor appears at the end of the first third to add some much needed complexity to this stick.
No development and the flavors remain unchanged. After a bit, the retrohale provides hints of spice and nuttiness.
The final third provides the same flavors as the rest. There’s not much to say about this cigar, and it definitely won’t astound you, but it’s a decent smoke with a good draw. Sometimes a reliable cigar is all you need, and La Barba Purple Robusto is just that.
