Initial Reactions and Appearance
The Wrapper is medium darkness, with 2 yellow bands. Wrapper is blemish free with no major veins. The cigar smells musty with aromatic/floral notes (imagine the smell of a middle eastern market). Unlit draw is somewhat nutty.
The first puffs of the cigar are very clean and full of flavor. I find that with a lot of cigars, there is a harshness on the first few puffs after the light. But, I don’t experience any of that harshness with this cigar. Right off the bat, there is a really sweet and light flavor. The floral notes I smelled on the prelight are coming out on the retro hale, along with some sweetness. The draw is tighter than what I normally like but I know a lot of people that prefer it this way. The smoke still comes out smooth and without an exhausting effort.
No relights or touchups have been needed so far. The profile has changed greatly. That sweetness has been replaced with a decent bit of spice on the retro. Smoke is still light and fluffy and the floral notes are still present. The draw is still a little on the tight side.
Still no touch ups; a nearly perfect burn. The flavors haven’t changed too much. I notice a little less spice but a little bit of chocolate on the straight draw.
Would I Smoke Padron No. 89 Natural 2018 TAA Again?
I would definitely smoke this cigar again. It was a really nice and easy smoke. Could pair well with anything and could be smoked any time of the day. This is a great cigar, especially when you consider the price point of $7.50 a stick.
