Initial Reactions and Appearance

The HVC Black Friday features a single black band with a medium colored wrapper. The wrapper is smooth with a bit of oil and no visible imperfections or large veins. The foot smells sweet and musty, which is a strange combination. The unlit draw provides very little flavor and gives me no idea on what this cigar might be like.

First Third

The first few puffs are overwhelming with spice and pepper on both the straight draw and the retro. I can tell that there are other flavors underneath the heat but I will have to wait for the spice to subside to get a better Idea on what they are. The draw and burn are pretty good so far with the ash is burning straight and white. The draw is on the tighter side but not to the point that it is actually difficult. While I like a looser draw, I can see this cigar’s draw being some people’s cup of tea. The spice is starting to cut back but it’s still the focus of the cigar at this point.

Second Third

Okay, now we are getting into something. The spice is falling off to a point where I can pick up other flavors. That sweetness I smelled on the prelight is finally coming to the front and at the end of the retro there is a nice sweetness to counteract the spice. I am also getting some very nice leathery flavors. I just lost the ash when this third started. The smoke is starting to get creamy but still with that spice present.

Final Third

With the spice mellowing out a bit more, the leathery notes are becoming more present. The smoke is still thick and creamy. The cream is really present on this final third and I’m really enjoying it. On the retro, the spice is still present with the sweetness falling away. I really love that this cigar is a great combination of cream and spice. A huge plus is that not one relight was needed on this smoke.

Would I Smoke HVC Black Friday Again?

I was really happy with the flavors on this cigar; it’s not often you get such spiciness with such creaminess. It’s a really unique cigar and it’s at a great price point. I will definitely be smoking this one again (will have to get a few more before they are all gone). This cigar has a very limited quantity so if you want to try it I recommend you find one soon.
