Initial Reactions and Appearance
Don Pepin Garcia TAA 2019 features a dark wrapper, two triple bands in the middle of the cigar, and a TAA band at the foot. The wrapper itself is oily with some ugly bumps that can be felt when running a hand along the cigar. It smells nutty and peppery, and the same nuttiness is present on the unlit draw.
Right away, Don Pepin Garcia TAA 2019 has some similarities to the pepper and spice of a My Father cigar. It’s on the retrohale and straight draw, and it lingers in the nose and back of the throat after each puff. The draw itself is very loose, but not loose to the point of annoyance. It’s right on the edge. A little creaminess and vanilla appears on the straight draw, but it’s quickly eaten up by the pepper. In fact, the pepper starts to take over this cigar. If light puffs are taken, a slight sweetness can be found on the very tip of the tongue.
With regular puffs, my cigar went out about halfway through the first third.
Pepper remains the dominant flavor well into the second third, although it starts to get a little creamier. Still smooth, but it’s changing a lot. The smoke becomes thicker and creamier, and the pepper starts to back down. It’s Creamy on the retro now, too. Nutty and earthy notes appear to add some complexity.
A little touch-up was needed about halfway through the second third of my cigar, which could have been a result of the earlier relight. There’s a ton of nicotine here–I can feel this cigar.
The final third of Don Pepin Garcia TAA 2019 starts off with some grassy notes, and it’s a lot stronger than before. The pepper returns and remains pretty active on the retrohale, and a little bitterness lingers in the back of the mouth but doesn’t ruin anything. All of the flavors are good till the end!
Would I Smoke Don Pepin Garcia TAA 2019 Again?
I would definitely smoke Don Pepin Garcia TAA 2019 again. The second third was by far the best and the changes in flavor were nice. There’s nothing crazy about this cigar, it’s just a solid stick that’s priced right at $10.
